Influenced by a variety of Indian musical legacies yet rooted in tradition, Subroto Roy Chowdhury’s raga depictions are expressed through rich and vivid sitar playing. He is joined by Indrajit Roy Chowdhury on sitar and Naren Budhkar on tabla.
About the Musician
Pandit Subroto Roy Chowdhury’s raga repertoire and performing style represents the assimilation of a number of Indian musical legacies. Subroto’s performance reflects in-depth training from legendary gurus, Pandit Birendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury, Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan and Ustad Nasir Aminuddin Khan Dagar, to name a few. These, venerable influences inform Subroto’s style, while keeping it steeped in tradition. Noted for his vivid raga depiction in the alap movement, Subroto keeps his focus on rendition of the raga throughout all phases of the performance. With an enormous collection of ragas and compositions accrued from authentic sources, Subroto’s sitar enchants audiences ranging from the uninitiated to the connoisseur.
