Memory Connections

Memory Connections is a free program for people living with dementia and their caregivers. On the second Thursday of every month, trained teaching artists and special performers facilitate an online experience designed to promote engagement between participants and the art and cultures of the Himalayan region.

In addition to an in-depth look at two artworks from the Museum’s collection, the August program features Liza Wu, a licensed creative arts therapist and board-certified music therapist. Her work inspires creative expression and community building through music making and shared musical experiences, which improve the mental health and well-being of adults with memory loss.

This program is the final program in the series. It will end in advance of the Rubin closing the 17th Street building on October 6 and transforming into a global museum.

About the Speaker

Liza Wu is a board-certified music therapist and licensed creative arts therapist in New York. An accomplished pianist, she has performed several times at Carnegie Hall. She is passionate about using music to create meaningful connections and experiences. She strives to enable anyone, regardless of age or skill level, to participate in music making for wellness. She currently works at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital as a music therapist, helping patients in recovery from neurological disorders such as stroke. Alongside the medical team, she uses her training to help patients cope with the challenges of hospitalization as well as improve functional skills such as speech or dexterity.
