Spiral Music
Wednesday, September 20, 2017
6:00 PM–9:00 PM
Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum’s spiral staircase. Artists who specialize in music from the Himalayas and South Asia are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.
About the Musicians
Kento Iwasaki is a composer and multi-instrumentalist. He has played the Japanese string instruments koto and shamisen as part of orchestral, jazz, rock, hip-hop, dance, and opera performances.
Elijah Matthew Moses is a drummer, djembe player, and electronic music producer. With a passion for both music and community building, he has played drums at Occupy Wall Street and in the hills of Central Park, often performing while blindfolded.
Kento and Elijah together form Gemini Hasu, a neo-tribal duo that began as a street performance group and is known for their unusual instrumentation, diversity of styles, and heartfelt performances. Their music has qualities of both night and day, going from the intensity of a full heavy metal drum set juxtaposed with the banjo-like shamisen, to the sensual plucks of the koto combined with the kinetic energy of the West African djembe.
