About Cabaret Cinema: Perception
Can the truth truly be trusted? Is it objective or rather tinted by our experience and memories? Perhaps there is no better medium with which to explore these questions than the illusory cinema. In that pursuit we have invited scientists to introduce films that potently demonstrate that much of our perception is clouded by the distorted lens of our assumptions and desires.
About the Introducer
Elissa Aminoff holds both a PhD and MS in Psychology from Harvard University, and a ScB in Cognitive Neuroscience from Brown University. She is an assistant professor of psychology at Fordham University, where she teaches biopsychology and cognitive neuroscience. Her research utilizes a combination of neuroimaging techniques, computational models, and cognitive theory to investigate how visual information is processed in the brain. Specifically, it explores how experience and context interact with visual perception by investigating the intersection of high-level vision and memory.
