– In the original stage play, upon which the film is based, Frank and Rita are the only two characters ever seen on stage. Other characters that appear in the film exist by name only in the play.
– Michael Caine has acknowledged this film as his personal favorite and regards his performance as Frank to be his best.
– Willy Russell, who wrote the film, also wrote the novel and play upon which the movie is based.
