Visitors to this Sunday’s free Rubin Block Party are in for a fun-filled afternoon of performances, gallery tours, free admission, and more. This year’s event draws inspiration from the current exhibition “Becoming Another: The Power of Masks.” As a result, the education team has devised an array of mask-themed art-making activities designed for creatives and craft-enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Here’s a list of the craft stations you can expect to find at the block party:
1. Animal Masks ““ Find your inner animal.
2. Bird Rattles ““ Make a feathered friend to help guide your path.
3. Fans- Perfect for a hot summer day.
4. Lotus Flower Origami ““ Make a bouquet for someone special.
5. Scent Sachets ““ Awaken the senses.
6. Prayer flags- Add your wishes. We hope they come true!
7. Namhkas- Make your own colorful thread cross.
8. Malas- Create a set of prayer beads that reflects your personality.
Each art-making activity is influenced by an artwork in the museum. You’ll have the opportunity to complete a Gallery Search in the Museum to find the source of inspiration.
