6:00 PM–9:00 PM
Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum’s spiral staircase. Artists who specialize in music from the Himalayas and South Asia are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.
About the Musicians
Sameer Gupta is one of the few percussionists simultaneously representing the traditions of American jazz on drum set and Indian classical music on tabla. By combining traditional and modern improvisational styles drawing from his Indian heritage and American roots, Gupta has already established himself as an original musical voice in jazz, world, and fusion music. From bebop to avant-garde, and European classical to northern Indian classical tabla, Gupta continues to compose and perform music from a true multicultural perspective that bridges several continents.
Neel Murgai is a multi-instrumental performer, composer, and teacher from New York City. He received an MFA in interdisciplinary arts from Goddard College. For the past fourteen years Murgai has studied with his guru and mentor Pundit Krishna Bhatt. He has composed music for numerous film, television, video, theater, and dance projects.
